Can’t pass it up

Who could pass up a chance to meet on Bearwallow Road?

The Romney campaign wouldn’t. OK, no Romney; he’s probably relieved to be on a plane home by now, after his widely panned European swing to prove his foreign policy chops.

Closer to home, Romney stand-in Bill Haslam, the governor of Tennessee, will appear at a Romney event at Apple Wedge Packers and Growers on Bearwallow Road on Wednesday. Topic: Small business and agriculture roundtable.

Hmm. How can the president improve things for apple growers. No idea, but the immigration forum I attended tonight sure did not sound like it was scripted by the Republican Party. Can’t Romney get behind the agriculture visa program that Bert Lemkes and Kenny Barnwell spoke of? Even in this economy, Barnwell’s apple operation and Lemkes’ Van Wingerden greenhouse operation can’t get enough workers. They need immigration reform, not campaign rhetoric.
