Stein Mart to double in size

Stein Mart will more than double its floor space and add men's and children's departments and home wares at South Center Shopping Center.

The new Stein Mart, located at the southern end of the shopping center near White St., will open March 20. At 29,000 square feet, the new space will be more than double the size of the current 14,000 square foot location and will position Stein Mart to better serve its customer base with a new layout and design concept. The store is moving from its current location to the other side of the Fresh Market.

"We're very excited about the new Hendersonville store. Continually improving the shopping experience for our loyal customers is something our team is always focused on," Stein Mart CEO Jay Stein said in a news release. "We've identified Hendersonville as a targeted growth area and we know our customers in the area will be well served by this new location."

The expansion here is part of the company's sales growth plan and its national strategy to open 10 new stores and move six existing stores to more strategic locations throughout 2014. The nationwide expansion plan is the largest since 2007 and follows a successful 2013 in which the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company posted a same-store sales increase of 3.7 percent.
