Blythe Commons plans five more units

A developer plans to add five more townhomes to the Blythe Commons development on Haywood Road at Blythe Street.

Begun in 2005, the 4.9-acre development has 15 townhomes of the 20 it is permitted to build under the planned residential development zoning. Attorney Larry Winson applied for a special-use permit on behalf of the developer.
During a neighborhood meeting on the request, residents of Blythe Commons, Plantation Walk and Brittain Creek raised concerns about obstruction of the view from their homes, the quality and compatibility of the new units and whether the new townhomes would disturb the creek.
Winson responded that adding five units would add revenue to the homeowners association. One resident said the developer had yet to complete some of the work the zoning permit required, such as a section of sidewalk. Planning Director Sue Anderson said she would check on those items.
The Planning Board will hear the request on Monday, Oct. 13.
