'Small Business Saturday' counters Black Friday

A counter movement to the big-box store and shopping mall oriented Black Friday, Small Business Saturday is gaining momentum as a holiday event to encourage shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.


During this year's Small Business Saturday, scheduled for Nov. 29, many downtown businesses will be offering in-store specials and welcoming visitors in other ways. Some of the participating merchants include:
All Nations Trading who will be offering 10% any single Item over $50.00. Art MoB Studios & Marketplace will have 10%-25% off select items and each $25 purchase gets a chance at their Christmas raffle. Emma's Baby Boutique will be running an entire store sale with up to 75% off original prices. The Fountainhead Bookstore plans to feature authors throughout the day on scheduled 2-hour shifts stop by to see who is on. In addition the bookstore will be offering a gift with purchase and hosting a representative from Votivo Candles who will be explaining how Votivo candles are made.
Need to warm up a bit and find the perfect holiday wreath, Four Seasons Christmas Garden Decor & More will be serving coffee and refreshments, carte blanc service and some special sales for the day. Homestead Linens plans to offer 20 % off storewide. While one of our newest downtown merchant's Lois's Closet will offer 10% off all merchandise over $1.00 and offer cookies and cider during the day and wine and cheese after 4:00. Mia's Marketplace of Antiques and More will offer refreshments and a raffle, stop by to register and for more information.
Mike's on Main wants to see you purchase something from another participating merchant! Show your receipt and they'll offer you one complimentary cup of hot chocolate. Once Upon a Sign, newly relocated to 3rd Avenue west between Main & Church will have a 15% off store wide sale. Shelley's Jewelry will offer all Lafonn Everlasting Desire at 30% off, these simulated diamonds set in sterling silver bonded with platinum retail at $100. Susan's European Gifts will feature a great 20% off storewide sale and will be serving hot cider and cookies. While Swanson's Piano is offering a blowout piano & keyboard sale with $600.00 to $1300.00 off select models. Finally, Tribal Trends plans a variety of sale items as well as a free world music cd with $50 purchase! The shop will also have readers on hand to-do Mini Tarot readings, palm readings, and spirit readings for a reduced fee.
