Meritor receives top three awards

Meritor Inc. claimed three top awards when the United Way of Henderson County celebrated its 2014 campaign Friday.
The event, held at Blue Ridge Community College and sponsored by Pardee Hospital, drew 150 volunteers,business leaders and community members.

Melanie Matteson of Kimberly-Clark, the 2014 United Way campaign chair, announced that pledges to date and projected donations would total $1.84 million.

The United Way honored Meritor for largest overall corporate campaign, outstanding employee giving and outstanding corporate giving.
Other top awards were:
• Model campaign award, Clement Pappas.
• Fearless Award, for strongly encouraging others to give, David Jones, Henderson County schools superintendent.
• Advancing the Common Good Award, Poplar Leaf Café, WTZQ,1600-AM.
• Live United Award, Morrow Insurance.
• Superhero for United Way, Charles Webb.
• Outstanding Employee Campaign Coordinator, Debbie Buckner, Wilsonart, and Candis Randall, PSNC.
• Campaign Speaker Award, Jim Lowder, Homeward Bound.
• Ed Brisley Jr. Award for outstanding volunteer service, Barbara Platz.
