Sub shop joins beer boomlet

Dan and Monique Ruiz pose with the new sign for their new Taproom opening next month in Vogel Plaza on Asheville Highway.

Monte’s Sub Shop is the latest Hendersonville business to plunge into beer.

Owners Dan and Monique Ruiz announced that they plan to open a taproom next door to their sub shop on Asheville Highway. The fittingly named Taproom at Monte’s will highlight a variety of local and craft beers.

The Ruizes have started construction and plan to officially open the Taproom at Monte’s this May.

“We are excited to start this new venture and share it with the community,” Dan said. “We love good beer and we know lots of people in the area feel the same way. With the recent expansion of the craft beer landscape in western North Carolina, it just seemed like the right move to make for our business.”
The Ruizes moved to Hendersonville in 2007 from South Florida. In August 2008, after realizing the area's lack of sub shops, the couple opened Monte’s. The full Montes menu will be available for Taproom customers as well as some new additional snacks. The Taproom at Monte’s will also have different hours than the sub shop, opening at 4 p.m. on weekdays and noon on the weekends and will feature rotating taps of local brews as well as several other craft beers.
The shop is on Asheville Highway just north of Ingles in Vogel Plaza. The menu contains a variety of subs, salads, paninis, wraps and soups and daily specials.
