Goodwill sets grand opening

LAUREL PARK — Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina will offer refreshments and promotional giveaways when it opens its fourth retail store in Henderson County this week.

The store opens Thursday at 1731 Brevard Road, the space formerly occupied by Fran’s Fashions, in Laurel Park Village.

The Laurel Park store will offer shoppers the bargains they have come to know at all Goodwill stores but will have different hours of operation. It will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. During a grand opening Thursday Laurel Park town officials, Chamber of Commerce representatives and Goodwill executive team members will take part in a ribbon cutting.
Donations of any kind are always needed and appreciated: clothing, electronics, home goods, furniture, jewelry, books, computer equipment and shoes are in high demand.

BGW accounting firm acquires Webb practice


BGW CPA, PLLC, has acquired the Hendersonville-based accounting firm Todd A. Webb, CPA, and will incorporate the organization into the firm’s Western North Carolina division, Adam Boatsman, a partner with BGW CPA, announced.
The acquisition coincides with BGW CPA PLLC’s continued expansion into the mid-size manufacturing, hospitality and craft brewing sectors and the relocation of Webb and his family to Florida.
BGW CPA (www.TrustBGW.com) will operate out of existing Todd A. Webb CPA offices at 220 North King Street in downtown Hendersonville while maintaining its office in Asheville. The entire team at the Webb practice will join the firm
“Todd Webb has put together an exceptionally talented team, and we are excited to bring them into our organization,” Boatsman said.
WNC native Sean Mitchell will manage both the Asheville and Hendersonville offices, and Patti Baker a former vice president for tax operations at the Webb practice, will oversee the core operations.

Laurels wins five-star rating


The Laurels of Hendersonville has received a Five-Star rating for overall quality from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Laurel Health Care Company announced.
Based on the results of onsite surveys, the CMS rates the nation’s skilled nursing facilities on a 1 to 5 Star scale to determine their compliance with federal and state regulations over a 12-month period. Facilities are rated on the results of their performance in complying with healthcare standards, quality measures, and staffing. Only the top 10 percent of nursing homes are eligible for the Five-Star Rating. The facility received a 5-Star rating for the quality measures component as well as a 5-Star rating for overall quality. The Laurels has maintained a 5-Star rating for overall quality for 15 consecutive months.
The Laurels offers comprehensive medical care in beautiful surroundings. A 26-bed short term rehabilitation wing offers private and semi-private rooms equipped with flat-screen TVs, wireless internet and personalized meal choices.
