Sierra Nevada takes it outside

MILLS RIVER — Building on what a spokesman called the "humbling success" of its Mills River brewery, Sierra Nevada is opening its back deck, beer garden and other outdoor spaces at the Taproom this week.

"Visitors can now enjoy snacks and fresh beers among the beautiful forested space surrounding our brewery," brewery spokesman Bill Manley said in a news release.

Opening this week are:

  • The Back Porch—a 220-seat indoor/outdoor extension of the Taproom itself. Full beer list and a specially designed selection of snacks perfect for enjoying the beautiful forested space at the brewery.
  • Beer Garden—a common-table area where guests can sit at long, communal tables and enjoy beer, food and friends. In cooler months, visitors can sample great beers by a cozy, roaring fire on the back patio.
  • Amphitheater—an outdoor stage and music venue built at the base of the brewery's rolling lawn. The first live show will be later this summer. The stage will host a variety of entertainment for up to 600 guests with a mix of family-friendly performances and other acts for guests 21 and over.
  • Estate Gardens—a 6,500-saure-foot estate garden will soon be filled with fresh vegetables and herbs grown exclusively for the Taproom and the small-scale pilot brewhouse.

"Since opening in March, our Taproom has been a humbling success for the brewery here in North Carolina," Manley said. "After more than three years of hard construction, we’re finally settling in to our community. We’re grateful for the warm-hearted reception we’ve found in and around the Asheville area. We’re proud to be a part of this vibrant beer-and-food culture and can’t wait to see what the future brings."
