State employee PAC endorses Apodaca

The political action committee of the State Employees Association of North Carolina announced that it has endorsed state Sen. Tom Apodaca, a Hendersonville Republican.

Apodaca, who is seeking his seventh term in the state Senate, was endorsed by the statewide Employees Political Action Committee following a recommendation from SEANC members at the local level based on his past — and expected future — support of North Carolina's vital public services and the people who provide them, the PAC said, adding that Apodaca had been instrumental in helping to protect the rights of state employees and preserving their health benefits.

"Sen. Apodaca has been and continues to be a friend of SEANC. As the powerful Senate Rules Committee chairman, he has stopped legislation harmful to state employees," SEANC Executive Director Dana Cope said in a news release. "He also has ushered through positive change by filing legislation that changed the governance of the State Health Plan, putting control in the hands of the Plan members rather than politicians."

EMPAC has endorsed 80 candidates in races for the General Assembly in the November election. They include 56 House race endorsements and 24 in the Senate.
