Thompson elected to lead commissioners

Tommy Thompson was elected the new chair of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners minutes after he was sworn into office for his second term on the board.

Charlie Messer, who had served as chair for the past two years, was elected vice chair. The two commissioners switched leadership positions. Thompson and Michael Edney were sworn into new four-year terms. Bill Lapsley, who defeated incumbent in the May 6 Republican primary, was sworn in to his first term.
Thompson, who served as chairman in 2012, presented his gavel from his past leadership term to Messer and praised him for his chairmanship in 2013 and this year.
"You've done an excellent job," Thompson said. "You've led us well."
