Commissioners stay with current leadership

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners re-elected Tommy Thompson as board chair on Monday, Dec. 7.

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners is standing pat with the leadership it has had for the past year.

With a harmony that has often been absent in the past, the board made quick work of its organizational work on Monday night, unanimously electing Tommy Thompson as chair and Charlie Messer as vice chair. Commissioner Bill Lapsley made the motion to give Thompson the gavel for another year.
Thompson thanked his colleagues and promised to do his best “remembering that it’s not me. It’s the five of us," he said. "I’m just the one that calls people to the podium and those kinds of things. I appreciate your confidence.”
Thompson then made the motion to elect Charlie Messer to a second straight year as vice chair, praising the Hoopers Creek store owner for spending time away from his business to do the county’s work. That motion also passed by acclamation.
