Edney elected chair of Board of Commissioners

Michael Edney was elected chairman and Grady Hawkins vice chairman of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners.

Michael Edney, a Henderson County native in his fourth term as a Henderson County commissioner, was elected chair of the Board of Commissioners Monday night, taking over for Tommy Thompson.

Edney, 56, was elected unanimously. Grady Hawkins was elected vice chair after he and Charlie Messer were sworn in to new four-year terms. Both won election without opposition in either the primary or general election.
A 1978 graduate of Hendersonville High School, Edney earned his undergraduate degree in political science from UNC Asheville and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina.
Edney served two terms in the 1990s before leaving the board. He ran again in 2010, defeating incumbent Bill Moyer, and won re-election in 2014.
