'We Were Soldiers' author headlines bookfest

Joseph Galloway, author of 'We Were Soldiers Once and Young,' will deliver keynote remarks at the Blue Ridge Bookfest on April 24.

Joseph L. Galloway, a nationally known war correspondent for half a century and co-author of “We Were Soldiers Once and Young,” will be the featured presenter at the seventh annual Blue Ridge Bookfest at Blue Ridge Conference Center at BRCC on April 24-25.


Galloway, a North Carolina resident, recently retired as the senior military correspondent for Knight Ridder Newspapers. Before that, he held an assignment as a special consultant to Gen. Colin Powell at the State Department. His participation in Blue Ridge Bookfest will include an interview by local author Bill Ramsey on Friday evening and a panel discussion Saturday on “Examining the Legacy of the Vietnam War through Literature.” Along with nearly 40 other authors, Galloway will be available to sign copies of his books and discuss his work.
Blue Ridge Bookfest offers small group workshops where writers gain knowledge and resources on the craft, efforts towards publication and book sales.

Author talks and exhibits are free. Friday reception featuring Galloway is $25. Saturday lunch with panel discussion is $10.
