School system honors top scholars

Henderson County schools honored 64 of its highest-achieving graduating seniors Tuesday during the 2014-15 Top Scholars Banquet at Blue Ridge Community College.

Held annually for 11 years, the Top Scholars ceremony recognizes the academic and athletic successes and strong leadership of seniors at the top of their classes.

This year, three students from Early College High School, the top 15 students from Hendersonville High, West Henderson High and North Henderson High, and 16 students from East Henderson High (due to a tie for 15th), were recognized by parents, principals, senior counselors, School Board members and school administrators. Flat Rock Playhouse Artistic Director Lisa Bryant delivered keynote remarks.

“We are excited about this opportunity to recognize and celebrate these outstanding seniors for their high academic performance," Superintendent David L. Jones said. "They have achieved success not only in the classroom but also in other endeavors during their high school careers. I congratulate the HCPS Top Scholars and encourage them to make wise decisions in the months and years ahead, for these decisions will impact their future. I hope they will continue to strive for excellence and wish each of them great success as they are our hope for tomorrow.”
