Hendersonville, Brevard both make 'Best Small Towns' list

Hendersonville and Brevard both made the list of the 100 Best Small Towns compiled by Livability.com, a website that ranks cities in a variety of categories.

The website comes out with lists annually including the 10 Best Cities for Families, the Top 10 Healthiest Cities, Top 10 Best Downtowns and others.
To create the list of the top 100 small towns to live in, the website “examined more than 40 data points each for more than 12,000 towns with populations between 1,000 and 20,000,” it said. “These scores were weighted based on an exclusive survey conducted for Livability by the leading global market research firm, Ipsos Public Affairs. These cities and towns allow for the tight-knit communities key to small-town living coupled with the amenities you’d expect in larger cities.”
Coming in at No. 57, Brevard, population 7,629, got credit for nature and culture.
“Located near the entrance to Pisgah National Forest, Brevard features a moderate climate and plenty of cultural attractions. Proximity to several waterfalls earned Brevard the nickname, “The Land of Waterfalls.” Brevard College’s music and environmental studies programs are lauded, and Blue Ridge Community College provides an additional choice for higher education. Outdoor adventure opportunities include lush parks, mountain biking and road biking.” Brevard was represented by Sliding Rock.

Ranked 63rd, Hendersonville, population 13,233, won points for its Main Street, friendly residents and good schools.
“Historic neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown district and friendly residents help Hendersonville, N.C., attract new residents. The four high schools in Hendersonville get high ratings from parents. Hendersonville is perhaps best known for hosting an annual North Carolina Apple Festival that draws 50,000 visitors.
