HHS benefit seeks golfers and sponsors
The 13th Annual Hendersonville High School Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at Cummings Cove Golf and Country Club. The entry fee is $85 per player and includes a cart, greens fee, food and drinks. Mulligans can be purchased at the event. In addition to golfers, we need sponsors at several sponsorship levels.
The tournament is an important event for Hendersonville High School because it is the only fundraiser that benefits the entire student body. In the past, funds raised have been used for video equipment and computers, English vocabulary books, biology and chemistry lab equipment, computer printers and teachers' supplies used in art. In addition to supplies and equipment, a portion of last year's tournament funded the "Fore Scholarship," given to a graduating senior.
Checks should be made payable to Hendersonville High School Fund and mailed to 1 Bearcat Boulevard, Hendersonville, NC 28791. For more information, please call Mrs. Dermid at Hendersonville High School, 828-697-4802, or email ddermid@henderson.k12.nc.us.

Shred documents and donate to needy
The City of Hendersonville will sponsor a secure Shred Day for city residents on Wednesday, May 14, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the parking lot of Patton Park, 59 E. Clairmont Drive. American Security Shredding will have their shredding truck in the parking lot to allow residents to dispose of sensitive materials. Residents of Hendersonville are invited to bring up to two boxes (or 50 lbs.) of paper items to be shredded. Suggested items to shred are financial statements, cancelled checks, credit card statements, payroll stubs, insurance forms, old tax returns, forms from doctor's offices, etc. This is not for businesses. The public can simply drop their documents off or stay and watch their documents destroyed. The event will happen rain or shine. If the shredding truck fills up before 10:30, the event will be over.

To make this part of a community outreach effort, the city is asking that residents who come to the event to bring items to donate to the Storehouse and IAM. Suggested items are canned fruits and vegetables, canned chili and beef stew, and toiletry items.
