City hires deputy fire chief (2)

Miller

Darren J. Miller has been hired as the new Deputy Fire Chief for the Hendersonville Fire Department, Fire Chief Joseph Vindigni announced.

Miller was selected from over 50 applicants during a national search and completed a comprehensive assessment and interview process.

“Chief Miller will be a great addition to our city of Hendersonville family," Vindigni said in a news release. "His extensive knowledge and experience in the fire service will truly benefit our organization and continue to make the City of Hendersonville a great place to live and work."

Miller began his fire service career in 1991 as a volunteer with Sarasota County Fire Department. In 1995 he moved to fulltime work with North Port Fire Rescue and most recently served at the North Charleston (S.C.) Fire Department. During his 25 years, he has served ias a firefighter/EMT, paramedic, lieutenant, captain, division chief, and assistant chief.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration, graduating summa cum laude from Hodges University. He brings a strong background in hazardous materials and special operations and has taught incident command on a national level. Miller will begin his duties on Aug. 1.
