The silver screen is decked out in red and green this holiday season, as the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra presents “Holidays at the Movies” Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Community College’s Concert Hall. The concert is sponsored by Carolina Village.

Tickets are $40 for adults. Special prices are available for persons under 40 years of age and students. All tickets are available online at or by calling 828-697-5884.
“There are so many wonderful movies that we associate with the holiday season,” said Pat Tukey, executive director of the Hendersonville Symphony. “Many songs that we consider holiday classics actually come from beloved films. We know this concert would be a fun way to celebrate the season.”
Joining the orchestra, under the baton of conductor Thomas Joiner, will be Preston Dyar, well-known actor for the past many years with the Flat Rock Playhouse, the state theatre of North Carolina. Dyar will provide colorful narration during the concert, including retelling the holiday story, “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
“Holidays at the Movies” is the third concert in the HSO’s 2018-2019 season and is always a favorite among holiday cultural events in Henderson County and the entire region. This year’s concert is a uplifting blend of music from such films as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “The Polar Express,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “White Christmas.”
“It is always fun to mix things up with the Hendersonville Symphony, and this concert has us stepping away from the more traditional yuletide offerings we may be known for from past concerts,” said Tukey. “Celebrating the connection of film and music, especially for the holidays, will be a great experience for everyone, including families.”
As always, there will be a guest mystery conductor leading the Symphony in a rousing rendition of “Sleigh Ride” by composer Leroy Anderson. The mystery conductor placed the winning bid for the chance to conduct at the Symphony’s annual fundraiser this past February.
