Ann Hayes McDonald

Ann Hayes McDonald

Ann Hayes McDonald of Mills River passed away in peace Sunday, November 15, 2015 after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Harry B. Hayes Jr. and Louise T. Hayes and wife of the late Charles W. McDonald. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Hayes McDonald.
Ann and Charles were married in 1954, at the beginning of his Air Force career. Ann loved to travel and was able to enjoy much of this country as well as the experience of living in the Philippines and Oslo, Norway as a result of Charles’ career. The family retired back to Mills River where they built a home for themselves and their four children as Charles began a second career at General Electric.
Ann loved history, politics, and All Saints Anglican Church, the church where she and Charles were not only founding members, but where they also gave of themselves tirelessly to see the vision come to life. Ann, a former member of the DSS Board in Henderson County, also served the Henderson County Republican Party and was a member and an officer of the Henderson County Republican Women’s Club. She was known by all to be very well-read, outspoken, and passionate about politics.
Ann is survived by her sons, Charles S. McDonald and his wife, Jennie, and David W. McDonald, all of Mills River; and a daughter, Ann Cameron McDonald and her husband, Larry Fleig, of Durango, Colorado. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Ashley, Morgan, Courtney and Kyle, and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00 in the fellowship hall of All Saints Anglican Church in Mills River. Committal services in the churchyard will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
