Buren Patterson "Pete" Price
Buren Patterson “Pete” Price was born June 28, 1938, in Monroe, NC to Charlie Patterson “Pad” Price and Wilma Ellen Ritch Price. He passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC on August 6, 2026.
He met Jackie Haydock on a day trip to Chimney Rock, NC. She was working in a souvenir shop, and he was chatting her up. She told him if he wanted to keep talking to her, he would have to buy something. Pete said he would buy an address book if she’d write her address in it. They were married nearly 64 years.
Pete was a member of the Air National Guard for 6 years. In 1962, he returned from his honeymoon to a phone call from the National Guard placing him on standby to fly to Cuba as tensions mounted during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Thankfully, Khrushchev backed down, and Pete was able to resume a peaceful married life.
He worked at Chimney Rock Park and many places around Henderson County. He retired from Day International.
Pete was a good friend to all, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed helping his family and friends any way he could. Pete was a member of St James Episcopal Church where he was an usher, bell ringer, and volunteered at the church’s Medical Loan Closet.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Henderson County Wood Crafters for many years. Pete also enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, flowers and birdwatching. And dessert!
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings; Martha Elizabeth Price Ingle (Neal) Byrum (Vance), Charles Thomas Price, Virginia May Honeycutt (Clayton), Carvin Coolidge Price (Ruth) (Lessie), Ollie Christine Price Mongomery (Straight), Foy Price, Coy Price, Vera Ruth Price Honeycutt (Gene), Delbert Milton Price (Mable) (Clara), Earl S.
