Martha Lois Condi, 93, of Laurel Park and Lake Pointe Landing, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at The Elizabeth House.
A native of Potomac, IL, she was born on Dec. 23, 1919, to the late A. Carl Stahl and Leota Stahl. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Condi; and her brother, Robert Stahl and his wife, Marguerite.
She was a graduate of the University of Illinois and in 1953 along side her husband, opened Condi Drill Company in Chicago. In 1972, they moved the company to Hendersonville. An instrumental part of business, she was the Chief Financial Officer before CFO was a popular term. After retiring in 1979, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge, working in her flower garden and ballroom dancing with Albert to the music of the big band era. She also enjoyed the company of countless wonderful friends who shared the same interests. She was an active member of the Laurel Park Planning Board, Council on Aging Meals on Wheels, Forrest Women's Club and the Hendersonville Corale.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Beth Austin, of Hendersonville, Linda Sheard and husband Bart, of Sturgeon Bay, WI; four grandchildren, Micah Sheard and wife, Megan, of Madison, WI, Heather Williams and husband, Daniel, of Madison, WI, Drew Austin and wife Toni, of Raleigh, Patrick Austin, of Snow Mass, CO; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Williams and Paige Williams, both of Madison, WI, Sophia Austin of Raleigh; a brother-in-law, Paul H. Condi and wife Alice, of Evansville, IN and a sister-in-law, Joyce Mizner, of Meadville, PA.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to The Elizabeth House medical staff especially, Dr. Hicks, Dr. Hovendon, Brenda, Laura, her primary care physician Dr. Slawek and her personal care giver, Wilma Hill "Our Angel on Earth".
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2013, in the living room of Lake Pointe Landing with Rev. Tony Hall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

George Franklin "Frank" Hensley, 64, of Zirconia, died Monday, July 1, 2013, after a sudden illness.
He was a native of Dana and a lifelong resident of Henderson Co., a son of the late William and Gladys Spears Hensley. He was also preceded in death by brothers Joe, Paul, Ricky, Roy, Kenneth, and Bill Hensley; a sister Lena Sentell; and a son-in-law Lance Bishop.
He was a member of the East Henderson High School class of 1968 and was employed by City Tire Service for more than 35 years, and M&M Freezer Locker. A US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the VFW, 40&8, Woodmen of the World, and was a trustee for Lodge 1391. He loved estate and yard sales. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving is his wife of 44 years Sherry Nix Hensley; two daughters Melody Bishop Edwards and husband Stacey and Nicole Galladay and husband Steve all of Hendersonville; three grandchildren Michaela Bishop, Blake Bishop and Waylon Lively; sisters Georgia Gilbert and husband Grady of Edneyville, Polly Hudgins and husband Junior of Dana and Christine Orr and husband Carl of Dana; brother James Hensley and wife Carol of Florida; sister-in-law Theresa Leonhardt of Black Mountain; several nieces and nephews; and mother and father-in-law John and Grace Nix of East Flat Rock.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mud Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Jared Mathis will officiate with music by his niece Angela McGraw. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors rendered by the Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday at Mud Creek Baptist Church and at other times will be at the home.

Rexford S. Souder, 98, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Carolina Village Medical Center.
He was born and grew up in New Jersey, moving to Hendersonville in 1999.
After graduating from Glassboro Teachers College, he got his Masters and Doctorate Degrees at Teachers College, Columbia University, then spent his career in Education, retiring in 1972.
He was preceded in death by his wife Harriet P. Souder in 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Neighbors and husband Gene of Moneta, Va., and Barbara Vant Leven and husband Hugh of Simpsonville, S.C.; two sons, Stephen Souder and wife Peggy Eng of St. Louis, Mo., and Donald Souder and wife Jennifer of Elgin, Ill.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

RUTHERFORDTON — Janie Ruth Stone, 50, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, June 28, 2013.
A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Herbert Glaspy and Dorothy Jane Glaspy.
She had an avid love of animals and enjoyed barrel racing in rodeos.
Janie was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Tupou and her husband Manailoa of Brevard and Krystal Jones and her fiancé Shavor Watson; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Penny Russell, Susie Porter, Cookie Ormand, Diane Simpson, and Brenda Coates; two brothers, Robbie Glaspy and Petey Griffin; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013, at the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A native of Henderson County she was born on Sept. 10, 1936 to the late Gladys Bradley. She graduated Waynesville High School and attended Wake Forest University. She worked as a medical technologist at Pardee Hospital for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Smith of Hendersonville; her two sons, David Smith of Salem, SC, Mark Smith of North Augusta, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

William "John" Arnold, 91, of Hendersonville, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013.
He was a native of Henlow, England, a prior resident of Chicago, Ill., and a resident of Henderson County for 26 years. Mr. Arnold was a son of the late Percy and Bertha Oldacre Arnold.
He was employed by The Wrigley Co. in the UK and later as Assistant Vice-President International Personnel in Chicago before retiring in 1986.
He is survived by his loving wife Monica Arnold to whom he was married for 71 years; daughters, Vivienne Collis and her husband David, and Stephanie Smyth; five grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren all of England.

Grady R. Land, 96, of Hendersonville, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.
He was a native of Georgia and a resident of Henderson County for 18 years. Mr. Land served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Brooks Turbyfill Land; two stepsons, Scott Turbyfill of Asheville, and Tracy Turbyfill of Candler; two step-grandsons, Toni and Tristan Turbyfill.

Carol William Jones, 75, of Hendersonville, went to his heavenly home Friday, June 27, 2013. He was the son of the late Ed and Vergie Jones. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Genell Vance Gilbert Jones.
He owned and operated C.W. Jones Construction Co. for more than 45 years and also worked at the Hendersonville Block Plant. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene for more than 65 years and served on the Church of the Nazarene NC District Advisory Board.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rev. Roxanne Alexander Jones, of Hendersonville; sons, Dr. Michael D. Jones of, East Patchouge, NY, Rev. Ronald V. Jones, of Venice, FL, Mr. Chris E. Jones of Sellersburg, IN; daughter, Miss Teresa D. Jones, of Etowah; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by brothers, Mr. Edward Jones, of Hendersonville, Rev. Dr. Roland Jones, of Lebanon, TN, and Rev. Cecil Jones, of Hendersonville; and sisters, Mrs. Roberta Harms, of Hendersonville, and Rev. Sheila Murphy, of Hendersonville.

Wilma Jean Dillingham, 79, formally of Hendersonville, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington after a prolonged illness.
A native of Buncombe County she was born on Aug. 12, 1933 to the late Paschal Jeffrey Austin and Bertha Robinson Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claye Shuford Dillingham and her son, Mark Dillingham.
They owned The Window Shop, a custom drapery, upholstery, blinds and awning company on Third Avenue East. She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Brown and her husband, Wade of Lexington; her daughter-in-law, Mary Dillingham of Hendersonville; a grandson, Adam Brown and his wife, Christine of Durham; a granddaughter, Emily Phillips and her husband Robert of Charlotte, a grandson, Nick Wise of Hendersonville and a grandson, Brookshire Wise of Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning an hour prior to the service.

Allison Briggs, born on Aug. 10, 1923, went to be with his Father in Heaven on June 21, 2013.
Allison was raised in Indianapolis. He skated with Sonja Henie in the Hollywood on Ice show. A veteran of World War II, he served in Germany as a sergeant in the US Army. After graduating from Indiana University, he began a career in the real estate field.
In 1951 he married Eleanor Kernchen and started a family. They lived in Northbrook, Ill., for 40 years before retiring to Hendersonville in 1997. An avid camper and traveler, Allison visited 49 states and western Europe. He enjoyed skiing and was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 29 years. As an active church member, Allison served on the Session, sang in the choir and supported the many outreach activities of the church. He was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church during his time in Hendersonville. As a descendant of James Allison, a founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he loyally attended the Indy 500 race for 70 years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor; a daughter, Kathryn; sons, James (Nancy) and Christopher; and two granddaughters, Cheryl and Laura.

Douglas Glenn Davis, 59, of East Flat Rock went to be with the Lord Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Elizabeth House after a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, Mr. Davis was the son of Audrey Davis of East Flat Rock and the late Marion Davis. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Denise Davis.
Mr. Davis graduated from Hendersonville High School and attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in psychology. He served in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division. Prior to retiring as a machine operator from Manual Woodworkers, Mr. Davis was a former Henderson County Deputy Sheriff. He was a member of the Assembly of Yahweh.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Delma Ranetta Jackson Davis of East Flat Rock; four sons, DeWayne Davis (Brandy) of Greensboro; Anthony Davis (Shawon) of Rhode Island; James Davis (Tara) of Brevard; and William Davis (MaShayna) of Charlotte; one daughter, Dione Davis, and one God-daughter, Vanessa Craven, both of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Marion Davis (Darlene), Larry Davis (Loretta), and Michael Davis; one sister, Audrey Walser (Johnny); two uncles, James Simmons and wife, Thelma, of NC and Clyde Davis of Hendersonville; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

On Sunday morning, June 23, 2013 the trumpets in Heaven sounded announcing the arrival of God's newest angel, Ronnie Buckner, following a courageous battle with declining health.
A native of Asheville, he was born on March 17, 1947, to Frank H. and Grace Fisher Buckner. Before moving to Hendersonville in 1970 he graduated from North Buncombe High School and attended Blanton's Business College. He worked at DuPont/Sterling/Agfa for 33 years where he was also on the Fire Brigade and a first responder.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, loved to go fishing, watch NASCAR and play golf. He was an avid supporter of the Hendersonville Rescue Mission and local police and fire departments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Plemmons Buckner; and his son, Tim Buckner of Cosby, TN.
A funeral service will be held at 2: p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the funeral home.

ASHEVILLE — Aline L. Hansens, 96, of Givens Estates died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, following complications from injuries suffered in a car accident.
Born Jan. 27, 1917, the daughter of Gustav and Fannie Rudolphi, she spent her early years in Nauvoo, Ill. She received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in fine arts in 1938. She was an accomplished artist who worked as a chartist for General Motors Company in Detroit. In 1944, she married Dr. Elton Hansens and moved to North Brunswick, N.J., where they resided until 1981. Her artistic work and scientific illustrations won significant recognitions. Her pen and ink work was exhibited at the Hunt Botanical Library of Carnegie-Mellon University, where it is now in their permanent collection. Four of her paintings were exhibited at the First International Exhibit of Botanical Art in Johannesburg, South Africa, and two paintings were exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. She illustrated 9 books, numerous scientific journals and publications and was a member of the guild for Natural Science Illustrators.
In 1981, she moved to Western North Carolina, living in Hendersonville and finally at Givens Estates in Asheville, where she and her husband enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S., pursuing interests in photography, teaching and also botanizing with the Western Carolina Botanical Club. They considered community service important and took an active role in local activities.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, in the Thomas Coke Chapel, Givens Estates.

Preston L. "Sandy" Jackson, 69, of Hendersonville died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at his home after a period of declining health.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice McCrain Arledge; sister, Louise J. Hill; and brother, Kenneth L. Jackson.
Sandy served as a homicide detective for the Henderson County Sheriff's Department for 21 years. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Pruitt Jackson of Hendersonville; his daughters, Kelly Jackson Raines and husband, Rodney, of Hendersonville and Tami Jackson Watkins and husband, Eric, of Atlanta, GA; three granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Bishop, Taylor Marie Bishop and Lauren Elizabeth Raines; one great-granddaughter, Makayla Elizabeth Bishop; two sisters, Joan Thompson of Hendersonville and Shirley Hyder and husband, Danny, of Etowah; brother, Larry Jackson and wife, Debra, of Flat Rock; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sassy.
