NCAE, PBA endorse Wood

Rick Wood, the Democratic nominee for the 48th Senate District, hasreceived the endorsement of the North Carolina Association of Educators and the Police Benevolent Association.
Formed in 1970 with the merger of the North Carolina Education Association and the North Carolina Teachers Association, the NCAE is a non-union state affiliate of the National Education Association (NEA).
The Mountain Chapter of the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association endorsed Wood and Marty Katz, the Democratic nominee for Henderson County sheriff, after candidate screenings, the PBA said.
"During the interview process, demonstrated why their experience and values make them uniquely qualified to represent the voters of Henderson County and Senate District 48," the PBA said in a news release.
"Marty Katz and Rick Wood are deeply rooted in the community today and the Mountain Chapter is proud to put our full support behind them and we ask that you do the same," North Carolina PBA Mountain Chapter Brandon McGaha said in a statement. "A vote for Marty Katz and Rick Wood is a vote for the men and women of law enforcement and the citizens they serve."
Wood also received an endorsement from former state schools Superintendent Mike Ward, who served in the office from 1997 to 2004.
"Rick Wood will be an outstanding North Carolina Senator," Ward said in a statement. "He understands the importance of good public schools to our state, our communities and to our students. He'll be a great champion for a better North Carolina."
