McDonald takes oath, makes command staff changes

Sheriff Charlie McDonald and employees of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office were sworn in to their various positions Monday morning during a ceremony at East Henderson High School.

McDonald, who was elected to the office on Nov. 4 after serving as appointed sheriff since 2012, spoke on the oath of office in a two-hour ceremony that also included remarks by former NFL football star Mickey Marvin, a Brevard High School graduate and an all-SEC guard at the University of Tennessee.

Emceed by County Manager Steve Wyatt, the ceremony also included comments on the meaning of the office by the Rev. Cody Sturgill.

McDonald also last week announced a change in his command staff. Promoted to chief deputy was Jerry Rice, who had been a major over the detention center. Frank Stout, who had been chief deputy, becomes a major responsible for support services, the detention center, the 911 center and public information. Maj. Jason Brown is in charge of criminal investigations, the patrol division and professional standards.
