Apprentice alums add energy to 'Musketeers'

Playhouse apprentice program graduates Jeff Sundheim, Catharine Kay and Michael Luwoye are performing in "The Three Musketeers."

A native of Huntsville, Ala., and graduate of the University of Alabama, Luwoye heard about the Playhouse from a past apprentice who told him "you have to go, you have to go."
He worked on the Rock in 2011 and 2012, performing in "Once on This Island," "Hairspray" and "Guys & Dolls." He has another role lined up after "The Three Musketeers" closes.
Sundheim and Kay are best friends, not a couple.
"We're just like D'Artagnan and Sabine," who are brother and sister, Kay says. "Flat Rock brought us together."
Like legions of Vagabonds before them, all three actors make their base in New York and look for jobs on stage.
"The plan is just to dive headfirst into auditioning in New York City," Kay said. "I guess there are lots of things that are more stable but I can't think of anything that's more fun or more fulfilling. There's nothing else that I'd rather be doing and I'm sure that these boys feel the same way."
"I feel like a career in acting is just like D'Artagnan says before he fights Athos," she added. "I'm a little bit scared but I'm willing to give you a run for your money."
