Planners endorse westward expansion of business zoning

Expanding the potential for commercial land-use on U.S. 64 west of Laurel Park, the Henderson County Planning Board says the Board of Commissioners should grant a rezoning from R-2 residential to office and institutional.

Property owner Jim Durfee requested the rezoning for a two-acre L-shaped piece of property west of Walton Drive and across U.S. 64 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Durfee's property is next to land owned by Eva Ritchey, which commissioners rezoned to O&I earlier this month. The planning staff recommended approval of Durfee's request, and the Planning Board unanimously endorsed the change as well. It's expected to come before the Board of Commissioners in January.
