Dental Society names top dentist, dental workers

The Henderson County Dental Society named its Dentist of the Year and honored other top dental office workers during an awards event last week.

Dr. Pete Richards was named Dentist of the Year at the event at The Cedars.

"Dr. Richards is a very caring and qualified dentist here in Hendersonville," the society said. "He has been practicing dentistry in Hendersonville since 1994. He is a leader in the county's Free Dental Clinic and is the representative for dentists with the Henderson County Board of Health."
His office is located in Chadwick Square Park.
Named Dental Assistant of the Year was Diane Pack, an oral surgery assistant for Dr. Ty Hornsby.
"She not only excels at assisting Dr. Hornsby but also provides CPR training for many Henderson County dentists and their staff members," the society said.
Diane is also the Coordinator for the Carolina Mountain Dental Education Club and serves as a liaison between the study club and its members. She has been employed by Dr. Hornsby for more than 15 years.
Hygienist of the Year was Mollie Fennimore, a hygienist for Dr. Joe Cowart and Dr. Bart Van Oostendorp at Carolina Smiles in Brevard.
"She is truly an asset for their office and makes her patients feel like they are a part of her family. Mollie goes above and beyond at her job and outside the dental office. She often volunteers in classrooms in the county teaching kids the importance of brushing and flossing. Mollie also volunteers with cancer charity events and is an advocate for breast cancer survivors."
Office Staff Member of the Year was Teresa Heffner, office manager for Dr. David Chapman. "Teresa wears many hats in her role as office manager, handling everything from scheduling to financials. Teresa is described as being accessible, supportive and a good listener. She always makes their patients feel welcomed and appreciated. Teresa brings a dose of common sense to their office and it shows!"
