Two charged in connection with misdemeanor child abuse

Juan Sanchez Jr.

Henderson County sheriff’s deputies on June 30 charged a 23-year-old man with child abuse and a 24-year-old woman with failing to report a crime against a juvenile after she later turned herself in voluntarily, the agency said in a news release.

The Special Investigations Unit initiated the investigation after patrol officers responded to a call for service in reference to alleged child abuse. At the conclusion of the investigation, Juan Sanchez Jr. was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor child abuse. Following his arrest, Sanchez Jr. appeared before a magistrate who issued a secured bond at $2,000. Sanchez Jr. was released after posting bond. The woman, Chloe Clark, was released on $1,000 bond.

A misdemeanor child abuse charge can be brought when a parent of a child less than 16 years of age, or any other person providing care to or supervision of such child, inflicts physical injury, or who allows physical injury to be inflicted, on a child by other than accidental means.
A failure to report a crime against a juvenile charge occurs when a person 18 or older, who knows or should have reasonably known, that a juvenile was the victim of a violent offense, sexual offense or misdemeanor child abuse and knowingly or willfully fails to report it.
