Rain postpones BBQ & Bluegrass, Wounded Warriors baseball still on

Rain postponed Laurel Park's BBQ and Bluegrass at Jump Off Rock until June 1 and led to the cancellation of the WNC Girls on the Run 5K at Fletcher Community Park. The Wounded Warriors baseball game is still on for 2 p.m. today at West Henderson High School.

The Wounded Warriors team, made up of military veterans who lost a limb in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, plays a team made up of Henderson County first responders and another made up of senior league All Stars. It's a fundraisers for the Wounded Warriors and for the the Veterans Restoration Quarters and Transitional Housing run by the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, a veterans support, training and recovery program.

Girls on the Run will announce a makeup date for the 5K race, Fletcher Parks and Recreation director Greg Walker said.

A small but hardy gathering of history fans showed up for a drizzly opening of the Heritage Museum new exhibit, "The Golden Age of Henderson County."

The chance of rain was 50 percent today, 70 percent tonight and 60 percent on Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
