Lots to see and hear on the Fourth

Parades, festivals and fireworks will take center stage across the region this Fourth of July. Here is a roundup of events.

Fourth of July Parade
The Hendersonville Fourth of July Parade, a family friendly event open to all, will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4. Participants can decorate a vehicle, motorcycle, tractor, bicycle, tricycle, wagon or even a horse in red, white and blue.

Applications for the event may picked up at the old Federal Building located on Fifth Avenue West. Parade entry packages will be available June 28 at the old Federal Building.
The proceeds will go towards the Veteran's Restoration Center. The public can also involved by bringing a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Veteran's Restoration Center. The items will be picked up along the parade route by parade participants.
The parade staging area will be located on Oakland Street and 64th Avenue.

Celebration on the Plaza
Following the parade, join the Fourth of July Celebration on the Plaza at the Historic Henderson County Courthouse on Main Street. There will be hot dogs, drinks and ice cream sponsored by the Henderson County Heritage Museum. For information, call 828-694-1619 or visit www.hendersoncountymuseum.com
Fireworks and concert
The Music On Main Street concert series presents a Special Fireworks Celebration Concert from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4th, featuring Tom Brown, One Man Band. Henderson County will launch an Independence Day fireworks display at sundown. Enjoy the concert and fireworks from the comfort of your chair at Music On Main Street.
Brown has been a professional entertainer since the late '50s, and during the mid-'70s he developed into a solo act. He will be performing some patriotic music as well as popular tunes such as "Crazy," "Duke of Earl," "Loco-Motion," "Crocodile Rock," "Mack The Knife," "Old Time Rock & Roll," "Proud Mary," "Rocky Top" and "Under the Boardwalk."
As part of the July 4th Celebration, all military veterans will be recognized along with those currently serving in the armed forces. All men and women having served in the military are requested to attend wearing a cap, t-shirt, or some other source of military identification and those actively serving are asked to wear their uniform to be honored and recognized.
The Special Fireworks Celebration Concert will be held at the Visitors Information Center, 201 S. Main St. in downtown Hendersonville. The seating area opens after 5:30 p.m. Early admission is strictly prohibited. Hendersonville city ordinance prohibits animals in the event area. Alcoholic beverages, back packs and coolers are prohibited. Admission is free.

Fireworks display
The Independence Day Fireworks Display will take place at dark. Fireworks may be viewed from downtown Hendersonville and the south side of town near the intersection of U.S. 25 and U.S. 176. A large red balloon will be launched the morning of the fourth to signify visibility of the fireworks show. If you can see the balloon, you can see the fireworks from your location. Brevard 4th of July Celebration
The Brevard Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks Show will take place on Thursday, July 4th.
The day starts off with a bang early in the morning with the 5K/10K Firecracker Run, organized by the Brevard Rotary Club.
During the day, downtown streets will be closed as the Transylvania Community Arts Council hosts its 41st Annual Fine Arts and Craft Showcase.
A Classic Automobile Show will for blocks and delight even the casual aficionado of 1920s to 1970s vintage vehicles.
The Courthouse Gazebo is center stage for day-long musical entertainment.

Patriotic Pops concert
The Brevard Music Center will hold its annual Pendergrast Family Patriotic Pops concert at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 4th, in Whittington Pfohl Auditorium. Maestro Kraig Alan Williams will lead the Brevard Symphonic Winds, joined by the Brevard Community Band, in marches, patriotic songs, and other favorites, finishing up with the 1812 Overture, complete with live cannon. Tickets are $30, $25 and $20 or $15 for lawn seating. For information, call 828-862-2100.
Columbus 4th of July Celebration
The Town of Columbus will hold its 51st Fourth of July Celebration from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 4. The day is filled with family fun, food, and entertainment, ending with spectacular fireworks.
Independence Day at Etowah
Etowah Valley Golf Club & Lodge will host an Independence Day celebration on Friday, July 5, including a couples golf tournament and a fireworks celebration.
The Stars & Stripes Extravaganza Couples Golf Tournament will kick off the festivities and is open to club members and the public. The format of the tournament is flighted captain's choice. Tee time is scheduled for noon. Entry fee includes prizes, dinner, music and fireworks following the tournament. An "After-the-Fourth" Fireworks Freedom Celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with a fireworks display at dusk. Lodge guests, club members and the public are invited to join in celebrating the nation's independence with live music, food and fireworks for the whole family. The freedom celebration will feature a free concert by The Nightcrawlers, an Asheville-based blues, soul and rock 'n' roll band.
After the concert, watch the sky fill up with an explosion of color, a true American tradition. Food, drinks and concessions will be available for purchase at the event. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
