Local man charged after baby found in cardiac arrest

Henderson County sheriff's deputies charged a 23-year-old Mountain Home man with felony child abuse after emergency personnel responded to an emergency call about a baby in full cardiac arrest, a report said.

 

The sheriff's office received a call at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday about an unresponsive six-month old infant at 141 Dorado Lane in Mountain Home. The infant was found to be in full cardiac arrest by first responders and Henderson County EMS. The infant was transported to Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, and  medical personnel transferred the baby  immediately to Mission Hospital in Asheville for further treatment.

After an in-depth investigation by the Henderson County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit, detectives arrested Justin Andrew Pate, 23, of Old White Street and charged him with felony child abuse – inflicting serious injury. The infant continues to receive advanced life support treatment at Mission Hospital and additional charges are possible, the sheriff's department said. Justin Andrew Pate is being held in the Henderson County Detention Facility under a $50,000 secured bond. Pate's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
