Council chips in $1500 for clock repair

Hendersonville City Council granted a $1,500 donation to help fund restorations to the McClintock Clock on Main Street at a meeting Thursday.

Mark Ray, who owns Dad's Collectibles on Main Street, has been fundraising for the restoration. During the meeting, Ray announced $1,800 of the estimated $5,000 needed has been raised so far.

"We've received donations from all over the county, even including parttime residents," Ray said.

With the addition of $1,500 from city council, parts can be ordered and the restoration will begin as soon as possible.

Hendersonville residents have rallied to supply donations for the restoration, according to Ray. Councilman Steve Caraker offered his scaffolding to be used during the restoration at no cost.

Chapter 126 of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors will complete the restoration. The restorations will allow the clock to reboot electronically in power outages and will switch to daylight savings time. The exterior will remain the same.

"We've got an extremely sought-after clock," Ray said. "This is an investment."
