Flat Rock Playhouse is holding auditions for children's roles for two upcoming productions, "Disney's Mulan Jr." and "A Christmas Story," including the classic role of Ralphie, the 10-year-old who dreams of owning an "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle."

Auditions will be held at the Robin R. Farquhar Education Center on the Playhouse campus. Call 828-693-3517 or go to ytrocks.com for more audition information.

The Playhosue is seeking boys and girls ages 10-18 and adult men for the YouTheatre production of "Disney's Mulan Jr." directed by David Earl Hart. Rehearsals are Sept. 20-Nov. 12 and performances are Nov. 12-24.

"A Christmas Story"

The Playhouse is seeking boys ages 6-14 and girls ages 9-12 for the Flat Rock Playhouse production of "A Christmas Story," directed by Lisa K. Bryant.

Rehearsals are Nov. 11-Dec. 3 and performances are Dec. 4-22.

Auditions will include reading select scenes from the script. No singing is required.

RALPHIE PARKER – (child lead, age 10 to 12 in appearance.) The hero. Imaginative and adventurous boy who must battle school bullies and convince his parents to buy him the PERFECT Christmas gift. Knows how to tell a joke, can get out of any tricky situation and loves to perform.

RANDY – Ralphie's little brother (age 6 to 8 in appearance.) Smaller than Ralphie; the cuter the better. Can be a bit awkward and offbeat. Admires Ralphie but won't admit it.

FLICK – Ralphie's friend and classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.) Skinny; has the look of Alfalfa from "Our Gang." He's the kid who gets his tongue stuck to the pole.

SCHWARTZ – Ralphie's friend and classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.) Slightly larger than Flick, a little tougher. He's the kid who "double dog dares" Flick to stick his tongue to the pole.

SCUT FARKAS – A meanie – the bully (age 13 to 15 in appearance.) There's nothing about him you want to like. He's that kid you always made sure to avoid in school.

ESTHER JANE ALBERRY – a classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.)

HELEN WEATHERS – a classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.)
