Little River Road will reopen Friday, DOT says

Crews work on paving the roadway of the new bridge over Mud Creek on Little River Road in Flat Rock.

FLAT ROCK — The new bridge over Mud Creek is expected to open by Friday night, the DOT says, opening up the 4-mile length of heavily traveled Little River Road for the first time since March.

A contractor was finishing up roadway paving on the new bridge on Little River Road in Flat Rock this week. The DOT's website projects that the bridge will open by 7 p.m. Friday. The DOT had made opening projections of Oct. 1 and Oct. 15.

The $1.3 million job includes the approaches on either side. A supervisor at the site said the bridge can open while the contractor completes work on guardrails. The DOT website shows a final "estimated completion" date of April 1, 2014. The work has been under way since March, forcing residents to use detours on Berea Church Road or Crail Farm and Middleton roads.
