Dryout, sunny days coming for Christmas

We're not going to see a white Christmas but we won't see a wet Christmas either. In fact, we should see nice weather for test-driving shiny new bikes, bouncing new basketballs or tossing unblemished footballs from Santa's bag.

In a fitting end to a well-drenched 2013, heavy rain over the weekend triggered a flood warning for the French Broad River in the oft-flooded Blantyre community on the Henderson-Transylvania line. A dryout will begin by this afternoon followed by a cool down and run of sunny days through Christmas week, the National Weather Service says. The flood warning expires at 1 a.m. on Christmas Day.
Christmas Eve is expected to be sunny with a high near 39 followed by more of the same from Christmas Day through the weekend. Highs will inch up steadily, from 42 on Christmas Day to 49 on Saturday.
