Workshops set for N.C. 280 greenway

MILLS RIVER — Bicycle riders and others interested in a bikeway along N.C. 280 in Mills River are invited to attend drop-in workshops this week.

The sessions are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mills River Community Center, 120 Schoolhouse Road; and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Town Hall.
Consultant Alta Planning and Design, a Portland, Ore.-based firm specializing in greenway design and engineering, will conduct the workshops then present findings and conceptual drawings at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Town Hall.
The bikeway study originally covered the 280 corridor from the airport to the Transylvania County line.
"Transylvania County was interested in it so they paid for a portion back into Brevard," said Mills River Town Manager Jaime Laughter. "It could definitely tie into the Ecusta Trail if that were to come into play."
The $35,000 study was funded by a grant from the French Broad Metropolitan Planning Organization with a 20 percent match from the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy.
