Man befriended, stole from elderly priest, deputies say

Henderson County sheriff's deputies charged a 41-year-old local man with stealing almost $6,000 from an elderly Catholic priest who was recovering from a broken hip.

After receiving a complaint from the elderly man's family concerning stolen and forged checks, detectives from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office arrested Daniel Lind of Bee Hive View Lane on felony counts of forging a check endorsement, and 14 felony counts of uttering a forged instrument and one count of misdemeanor Larceny.

Lind allegedly befriended the elderly gentleman, a Catholic priest, and offered to take care of his cat after a fall and broken hip forced the older man to relocate from out of state to be cared for by family members. Investigators say Lind stole a book of checks, forged them and drew $5,750 from his account. Lind was jailed under a $42,500.00 bond.
