Alert Fletcher officer makes arrest in tractor theft

Fletcher police charged a Hendersonville man with stealing $72,000 excavator from the Town Hall construction site.

FLETCHER — A Fletcher police officer who spotted a pickup truck hauling an excavator from the Fletcher Town Hall construction in predawn darkness thought that something didn't look right.

It was 5:30 in the morning and no one else was at the construction site on Old Fanning Bridge Road. The officer followed the pickup and made a vehicle stop. "The driver's story did not match what had occurred," the Fletcher Police Department said in a news release.
The officer determined that the $72,000 excavator, which the town had rented for work at the construction site, "had just been stolen." Charged with the felony theft was Michael Grant Gordon, 28, of Sunset Hill Road in Hendersonville. More charges could be filed, the police department said.
