More than 60 people participated in a silent walk with a large cross through downtown Hendersonville in the annual Good Friday "Crosswalk" led by First United Methodist Church.

Participants walked along and bore the cross in silence to commemorate the death of Jesus on the cross.

"Carrying the cross of Jesus through the bustling streets around downtown reminds us of the pilgrimage, our 'taking up of our cross and following,' and gives us some idea of the burden Jesus bore for us," said the Rev. Dan Martin, senior minister of the church.

At the sanctuary, walkers positioned the cross on the altar and concluded the Crosswalk with prayer.
