Henderson County road to close for bridge project

SHELBY -- Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, a portion of Stepp Mill Road in Henderson County will be closed while crews work on a project updating the bridge over Saconon Creek.

As part of the project, the existing bridge, built in 1958 and located east of Hendersonville, will be retrofitted for pedestrian use. The $1,024,949 contract also includes grading, drainage, paving and adding a retaining wall.

A detour will be in place during construction directing motorists to take Ridge Road to Oleta Road and then back to Stepp Mill Road. The detour is expected to remain in place until June 2015.

DeVere Construction Company, Inc. of Raleigh is the project contractor.
