Festival names 2014 Apple Ambassador

Emily Rachel Holbert has been named the 2014 Apple Ambassador by North Carolina Apple Festival Inc.

Holbert, a rising senior at East Henderson High School and the daughter of Joseph and Lisa Holbert, will represent the Apple Festival throughout the year including attending many events during the Festival Weekend. She will receive a $2,000 college scholarship.
The first runner up is CayCee Nicole Justus, a rising senior at North Henderson High School and the daughter of Tim and Diane Justus, will be awarded a $1,000 college scholarship.
The other representatives are Natasha Townsend and Kathlene Beam from Hendersonville High School, Kristen Carter from East Henderson High School, Ellie Caldwell from North Henderson High School, and Christine Carpenter and Jessica Parce from West Henderson High School.
The Apple Ambassador represents the festival and at other events across the region. Each year, the festival selects its ambassador from rising high school seniors. Students are required to submit their transcripts, list of activities, provide letters of recommendation and write an essay on the Apple Festival and the importance of the apple industry to this area. The Apple Ambassador is selected based on this information and through an interview process.
The Apple Ambassador is awarded the Evelyn Lutz Hill Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the longtime secretary of the North Carolina Apple Growers Association. She was serving as the president of the North Carolina Apple Festival when she died in 2004.
