Mills River man charged with attempted murder

MILLS RIVER — Sheriff's deputies charged a 41-year-old Mills River man with attempted first degree murder and other felonies after he assaulted a woman and fired five shots toward her, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

 

Deputies received a call at 10:24 p.m. Monday after reports of shots fired at 8253 Boylston Highway in Mills River. The woman told deputies about the gunfire, and another shot was fired while they were on the scene. Charged with attempted murder was Roy Travis Bruce.

After backup units arrived, deputies confronted Bruce on the porch and ordered him to surrender. He ran back inside the started turning off lights. When he left the house, deputies ordered him to show his hands. When he refused, they subdued him with a shot from a taser, handcuffed him and took him into custody.

Bruce is charged withsix counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, two counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse, one count of Misdemeanor Assault on a Female and one count of Misdemeanor Resist, Obstruct and Delay a Public Officer. He was jailed in the Henderson County Detention Facility and under a $144,000 bond.
