Rain delays add week to Howard Gap closure

Rain delays have caused the NCDOT to extend the closure of Howard Gap Road another week, until Aug. 9., as a contractor continues the $7.8 million widening project. The road closure began July 21.

Starting at 6 a.m. Monday, Howard Gap Road will be closed from Clear Creek Road to Massey Road between Hendersonville and Fletcher. The closure will remain in place until 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.

The closure was originally scheduled to remain in place through Saturday, Aug. 2. at 8 p.m. During the road closing, the signed detour route follows Salisbury Road to Brookside Camp Road and back to Howard Gap Road. The project includes replacing two bridges and widening Howard Gap Road between U.S. 64 and Brookside Camp Road in Henderson County. Project contractor is NHM Constructors of Asheville.
