Mom of jailed Marine to visit here

HonorAir announced today that Jill Tahmooressi, mother of imprisoned Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, will visit Hendersonville this weekend.

She will arrive at the Asheville Regional Airport at 3:49 p.m. Friday. HonorAir is asking people to come out and support her as she works to free her son.

There will also be a "Meet and Greet" at the Historic Courthouse at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7. People can drop by and meet Jill and write a short note/letter to her son that will be mailed from Henderson County to Andrew the next day.

Jill Tahmooressi, a nurse in South Florida, has a daughter in Asheville, and she and her husband own property they plan to retire to in Rutherford County.

Donations to Tahmooressi's defense fund will be accepted but the event is not a fundraiser; it is an opportunity to lift the family's spirits, HonorAir said in a news release. As of Tuesday, Tahmooressi has been held in a Mexican prison for 155 days after Mexican authorities caught him a few miles south of the border. He said he made a wrong turn in an unfamiliar area and was never given the chance to explain.
