City Fire Department announces promotion, new hires

The Hendersonville Fire Department promoted Christian Miller to lieutenant and hired Glen Gillette and Chris Martin as firefighters.

The Hendersonville Fire Department promoted a firefighter to lieutenant and hired three firefighters.


The department announced that it had promoted firefighter/EMT Christian Miller to lieutenant and hired Glen Gillette and Chris Martin as fulltime firefighter/EMTs and Paul Kaplan as a parttime firefighter EMT.

Miller began his career in the fire service with Fairview Fire and Rescue Department in Buncombe County in 2009. His last position with them was as a Lieutenant. He came to work for Hendersonville Fire Department in 2013 as a Firefighter/EMT and was promoted to Lieutenant in September of 2014. Christian is a recent graduate of Columbia Southern University with an Associates of Applied Science in Fire Science. He is currently working on his Bachelors of Applied Science in Emergency Management through Waldorf College.
Gillette began his career in the fire service with the city of King Fire Department in Stokes County in 2005. His last position there was as an Engineer. In 2012, he became a Fire Rescue Officer 1 with the City of Greenville Fire and Rescue Department in Greenville, N.C. He moved to Hendersonville in 2013 and became a full time paramedic with Henderson County EMS. He was hired with the City of Hendersonville Fire Department in September of 2014 as a full time Firefighter/EMT. An Eagle scout, Glen is a graduate of Forsyth Technical Community College with an Associates of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology.
Martin began his career in the fire service with Valley Hill Fire and Rescue Department in Henderson County in 2012. He is also a volunteer with Brevard Fire Department in Transylvania County. Chris was hired with the City of Hendersonville Fire Department in September of 2014 as a full time Firefighter/EMT. He plans on making the fire service his career and future goals include obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science and is also an Eagle Scout.
Kaplan moved to North Carolina from New York four years ago looking for a change of pace. After graduating from the Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Academy, he began working full time with Fletcher Fire and Rescue Department in Henderson County, NC as a Firefighter/EMT in 2013. He was hired as a part time Firefighter/EMT with the City of Hendersonville Fire Department in September 2014 and also works part time with Valley Hill Fire and Rescue Department and the Henderson County Rescue Squad. He is also credentialed as an EMT-Intermediate.
