Series aims to 'keep fires burning'

The Center for Cultural Preservation is offering a new program on mountain culture called "Keeping the Fires Burning: Heroes of Mountain Culture."
The series features musicians, authors and heritage preservation leaders who are working to keep mountain culture alive.All programs are scheduled at Blue Ridge Community College starting at 7 p.m.
The series will include:

  • WNC's First People: Cherokee Culture Yesterday and Today featuring T.J. Holland, the Cultural Resources Coordinator for the Eastern Band of the Cherokees, Oct. 21, Patton Building.
  • A Musical Conversation with David Holt, Four-time Grammy Award winning musician and storyteller, Nov. 5, Bo Thomas Auditorium.
  • The Mountains Are Alive With Bluegrass featuring Grammy Award winner Marc Pruett and acclaimed mandolin player Darren Nicholson, both members of Balsam Range, Dec. 4, Bo Thomas Auditorium.
  • Green River Valley Stories featuring bestselling author Robert Morgan, March 3, Patton Building.
