Seventh Avenue to get splash of color, 'parklets'

Seventh Avenue will be getting a splash of color and "parklets" — tiny park-like spaces that could be used for seating or other public use.

Endorsed by the Seventh Avenue Advisory Committee, the plan includes striping to narrow the travel roadway to slow traffic and adds crosswalks.
The new plan comes with a twist.
The advisory committee wants to outline areas in conventional white or yellow NCDOT paint but fill the areas with different colors to add an artistic flair to the historic district.
"Parklets," parking spaces that can be used for other things such as outdoor seating and planters, are also in the plans for the Historic Seventh Avenue District.
