Ingles donates sweets for Trick or Treat Street

Merchants pose with bags of candy they will be giving out on Halloween during Trick or Treat Street downtown.

The chocolate has arrived. Let the countdown begin. Nine days to go till Trick or Treat Street.

Ingles donated 12 cases of candy bars and 14 merchants turned out in the 400 block of Main Street this afternoon to pick up the treats for the Halloween tradition that brings hundreds of kids to downtown Hendersonville.

"We love downtown Hendersonville," said Ingles Director of Advertising Melissa Lavell. "We thought this would be a good way to contribute. It's such a good safe way for children to trick or treat. I hear it's packed."

Merchants hand out candy as children roam the streets in a frenzy of excitement.

"These are big bags," Lavell said. "They'll be able to hand out a bunch of it. I know where I'm going to trick or treat."

The bags contain Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Snickers and Twix bars.

The event, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Main from Allen Street to Sixth Avenue, includes a Halloween costume contest and dance party. For more information visit www.downtownhendersonville.org.
