Playhouse names new marketing director

Dane Whitlock

An actor who appeared on stage at the Flat Rock Playhouse for many years and later went into public relations has been named director of marketing and communications at the theater, Playhouse Artistic Director Lisa K. Bryant announced Friday.

Dane Whitlock, a native of Florence, S.C., will start in his newest Playhouse role in January.

Whitlock has been a proud Vagabond since 1999 having appeared in such shows as Beauty and the Beast, State Fair, 42nd Street, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and You Can't Take It With You. After pursuing a successful acting career in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles with many national, international, regional and stock credits, he forayed into a career of public relations and marketing where he developed impactful campaigns for such brands as L'Oreal, Unilever, Coty, Calvin Klein and Vera Wang. Since 2006, he has served as Senior Vice President of Creative Media Marketing, a public relations and social media agency with offices in New York and Los Angeles.

"We are very excited that Dane has returned to the Playhouse and even more excited that he has joined our team of creative professionals," Bryant said in a news release. "His experience in acting and marketing, along with his theatrical knowledge, will contribute greatly to the success of the Playhouse."

Whitlock holds a BFA in musical theatre from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va.
