LOCAL NEWS BRIEFS: 'Letters' at SAB, scarfs and barks

Local news briefs for Dec. 24-31.

Soloists and chamber ensembles from the Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestras serenaded holiday shoppers on Dec. 6 for the youth symphony's Charity Day.

Surrounded by Christmas trees, poinsettias and ornaments in the Ace Hardware cafe, the student musicians performed holiday favorites and other selections during the event, which was co-sponsored by the Hendersonville Symphony League and Ace Hardware. Owner Greg Paul donated a percentage of sales for the day in support of the HSYO programs.
"We are very grateful for this opportunity for our youth to perform in such a lovely setting and for Ace's generosity in supporting our orchestras," HSYO music director Eric Scheider said.
Almost 100 students from Henderson and surrounding counties rehearse and perform together throughout the year in the HSYO's three ensembles.

New entrance open at airport

Asheville Regional Airport's new main entrance will opened on Monday. The relocation of the airport's entrance is part of an NCDOT project to upgrade the I-26 interchange at Airport Road.
All traffic will be able to enter the airport at its new main entrance, located directly across the street from the Fairfield Inn and J&S Cafeteria.
