Dr. Thomas L. Eisenhauer of Pardee Surgical Associates was recently appointed to the North Carolina Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control by Gov. Pat McCrory.

"Dr. Eisenhauer's service will make an immediate and positive impact upon the changes we are making in our state," McCrory said. "We need leaders such as him in public service to help promote our vision and realization of a better North Carolina."
The mission of the Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control is to facilitate the reduction of cancer incidence and mortality for all North Carolinians, enhance statewide access to quality treatment and support services, and maximize quality of life for all North Carolina cancer survivors, patients, and their loved ones through educating and advising government officials, policy makers, public and private organizations, and the public. Dr. Eisenhauer's commitment to the advancement of cancer treatment and prevention ensures that the residents in western North Carolina receive the very best care and treatment possible while remaining at the forefront of the minds of policy and decision makers.
"Pardee Hospital has always been dedicated to improving the health and well being of the region," Pardee CEO Jay Kirby said in a news release. "It has been my pleasure to work alongside dedicated clinical staff that is willing to take this a step further, by working to improve health care at a state and national level. Dr. Eisenhauer's commitment to cancer treatment is one of many testaments to the quality of care found at Pardee Hospital and within the UNC Health Care family."
In addition to his role as a general, thoracic and vascular surgeon with Pardee Surgical Associates, Eisenhauer is also active on a regional and national level in the fight against cancer. He has been an elected Diplomat to the Commission on Cancer (CoC), representing the American College of Surgeons, since 1994. He is a surveyor for the CoC, reviewing other cancer programs nationally, and serves as Chairman of the Field Staff Subcommittee, tasked with training and overseeing all national surveyors. He currently serves as the North Carolina State Chairman for the CoC Cancer Liaison Program and is a member of the Ethics Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Eisenhauer has also been a featured speaker at numerous national meetings, speaking on behalf of the CoC.
"This appointment by Governor McCrory will enable me to bring to the state level the cancer activities and knowledge that I have been exposed to nationally through my roles with the CoC," he said. "By being involved with cancer care locally, regionally and nationally, I have the ability to help each of the programs at their specific levels of regulations. Ultimately, I hope this will be to the benefit of our cancer patients here locally, as well as far beyond."
